Description

Tirokafteri is a spicy Greek feta dip that combines creamy crumbled feta cheese with roasted red peppers, olive oil, and a kick of chili pepper. This flavorful and easy-to-make dip is perfect as an appetizer, spread, or accompaniment to Mediterranean dishes and pairs well with pita bread, veggies, or crackers.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 medium roasted red peppers
  • 1 cup feta cheese (approx. 250g or 8.5oz), crumbled
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons red vinegar (or substitute another vinegar)
  • 1 red chili pepper, or chili flakes to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine Base Ingredients: Add the roasted red peppers, crumbled feta cheese, olive oil, and red vinegar to a food processor.
  2. Add Chili for Heat: Wearing gloves, chop the red chili pepper in half and add half of it to the food processor.
  3. Blend Until Smooth: Process the mixture until the dip is smooth and well combined.
  4. Adjust Spice Level: Taste the dip, and if you desire more heat, add more chopped chili pepper or chili flakes and blend again until smooth. Adjust according to your spice tolerance.

Notes

  • Wear gloves when handling chili peppers to avoid skin irritation.
  • You can substitute the red vinegar with apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar if desired.
  • For less heat, reduce or omit the chili pepper.
  • This dip can be served immediately or refrigerated for a few hours to let flavors meld.
