Delight in a naturally sweet and tangy Pineapple Fruit Leather that’s easy to prepare and perfect for a healthy snack. Made with fresh pineapple and a hint of honey and orange, this homemade fruit leather is chewy, flavorful, and free from preservatives.
Ingredients
Fruit Leather Ingredients
- 3 cups chopped pineapple (about 1 medium pineapple)
- 2-3 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon orange juice
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
Instructions
- Prepare the puree: Place the chopped pineapple, honey, orange juice, and orange zest into a blender. Puree until completely smooth, ensuring there are no chunks for a consistent texture.
- Line the baking pan: Take a 13” x 18” baking pan and line it with a silicone baking mat. This will prevent sticking and allow easy removal later.
- Spread the mixture: Pour the blended pineapple mixture onto the lined pan. Use a silicone spatula to spread it evenly to create a uniform thickness, which helps in even drying.
- Bake the fruit leather: Place the pan in an oven preheated to 200 °F (93 °C). Bake for 3 to 4 hours or until the surface is dry to the touch and no longer sticky. The fruit leather should be pliable but not wet.
- Cool and remove: Let the fruit leather cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, carefully peel it off the silicone mat to avoid tearing.
- Cut and store: Cut the leather into strips of your preferred size. Roll each strip in parchment paper for easy storage and handling. Store the rolled fruit leather in an airtight container or jar for up to 1 week to maintain freshness.
Notes
- Ensure the pineapple is ripe for the best natural sweetness and flavor.
- Adjust honey quantity based on sweetness preference or substitute with maple syrup for a different flavor.
- Use a good quality silicone mat to prevent sticking and facilitate easy peeling.
- The drying time may vary depending on oven and humidity; start checking at 3 hours.
- For longer storage, consider refrigerating in an airtight container.
