Description

Puppy Chow is a delightful, no-bake snack mix made with crunchy Rice Chex cereal coated in a rich, smooth blend of melted chocolate, peanut butter, and butter, then dusted generously with powdered sugar. This easy-to-make treat is perfect for parties, road trips, or a sweet snack at home, offering a perfect balance of creamy, crunchy, and sweet flavors.

Ingredients

Chocolate Mixture

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste

Cereal and Coating

  • 6 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare Chocolate Mixture: Place the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and salted butter in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute, then stir to combine. Return to the microwave and heat for an additional 30 seconds or until the mixture is smooth and fully melted. Stir in the vanilla bean paste until well combined.
  2. Coat Cereal: Pour the Rice Chex cereal into a large mixing bowl. Gently pour the warm chocolate peanut butter mixture over the cereal and stir carefully until every piece is evenly coated.
  3. Add Powdered Sugar: Transfer the coated cereal into a large Ziploc bag, add the powdered sugar, seal the bag, and shake vigorously until all the cereal pieces are thoroughly coated with powdered sugar.
  4. Set and Store: Spread the coated puppy chow on parchment or waxed paper to cool and allow the chocolate to set. Once cooled, store the puppy chow in an airtight container for up to two weeks. If your kitchen is warm, refrigerate to keep it fresh.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure the chocolate mixture is smooth and warm to coat the cereal evenly.
  • Use a gentle hand when stirring the cereal to avoid breaking the Chex pieces.
  • Adjust the powdered sugar quantity depending on your desired sweetness and coating thickness.
  • Store in a cool, dry place or refrigerate to maintain freshness, especially in warm climates.
  • Vanilla bean paste can be substituted with vanilla extract if unavailable.
