Description

This simple Baked Sweet Potato recipe offers a nutritious and comforting side dish made by roasting sweet potatoes to tender perfection. Enhanced with optional butter and basic seasoning, it’s an easy-to-make, wholesome dish ideal for any meal.

Ingredients

Sweet Potatoes

  • 4 sweet potatoes

Seasoning

  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: Butter, as desired

Instructions

  1. Wash: Thoroughly wash and scrub the sweet potatoes under running water to remove any dirt or debris. This prepares the skin for baking.
  2. Poke the Potatoes: Place the sweet potatoes on a baking sheet and pierce each 4 to 5 times with a fork or sharp knife. This allows steam to escape during baking.
  3. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and let it fully preheat before placing the potatoes inside.
  4. Bake: Place the prepared sweet potatoes in the preheated oven and bake for about 60 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a fork or knife; it should slide in with very little resistance, indicating the potatoes are soft and fully cooked.
  5. Season and Serve: Remove from the oven, slice open, and season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Add butter if desired for extra richness. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Sweet potatoes vary in size; adjust baking time accordingly if larger or smaller.
  • Poking the potatoes prevents them from bursting during baking.
  • For a crispy skin, you can lightly coat the sweet potatoes with olive oil before baking.
  • Leftover baked sweet potatoes can be refrigerated for up to 4 days.
