Description

These Sweet and Sour Meatballs are tender, flavorful, and coated in a tangy, slightly sweet sauce. Made with simple ingredients and baked in the oven, they make a delicious and easy dinner served over rice.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons grated onion
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sweet and sour sauce
  • Prepared rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Line a baking sheet with foil.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, grated onion, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, grated ginger, and salt.
  3. Form the mixture into 1 1/2-inch meatballs and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 20–30 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
  5. While the meatballs bake, heat the sweet and sour sauce in the microwave or a saucepan over low heat.
  6. Once the meatballs are done, transfer them to a large bowl and pour the warm sauce over them. Gently stir to coat the meatballs evenly.
  7. Serve the meatballs over prepared rice and drizzle with any extra sauce.

Notes

  • You can use ground turkey
  • as a substitute for ground beef.
  • Try adding chopped green onions or sesame seeds as garnish before serving.
  • Use store-bought or homemade sweet and sour sauce depending on your preference.
  • Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and can be reheated in the microwave or on the stove.
