Description
These Sweet and Sour Meatballs are tender, flavorful, and coated in a tangy, slightly sweet sauce. Made with simple ingredients and baked in the oven, they make a delicious and easy dinner served over rice.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons grated onion
- 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup sweet and sour sauce
- Prepared rice, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Line a baking sheet with foil.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, grated onion, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, grated ginger, and salt.
- Form the mixture into 1 1/2-inch meatballs and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 20–30 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
- While the meatballs bake, heat the sweet and sour sauce in the microwave or a saucepan over low heat.
- Once the meatballs are done, transfer them to a large bowl and pour the warm sauce over them. Gently stir to coat the meatballs evenly.
- Serve the meatballs over prepared rice and drizzle with any extra sauce.
Notes
- You can use ground turkey
- as a substitute for ground beef.
- Try adding chopped green onions or sesame seeds as garnish before serving.
- Use store-bought or homemade sweet and sour sauce depending on your preference.
- Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and can be reheated in the microwave or on the stove.
