Description
This Sourdough French Toast is golden and crisp on the outside with a soft, custardy center. Made with tangy sourdough bread and a cinnamon-spiced batter, it’s a delicious twist on the classic breakfast favorite.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 cup milk
- Pinch of salt
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 10–12 slices sourdough bread
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and milk until smooth and no lumps remain.
- Add salt, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and sugar. Whisk until fully combined into a smooth batter.
- Heat a buttered griddle or frying pan over medium heat.
- Dip each slice of sourdough bread into the batter, soaking both sides until saturated but not falling apart.
- Place the soaked bread slices onto the hot griddle and cook until golden brown on each side, about 2–3 minutes per side.
- Serve warm with maple syrup, fresh berries, or toppings of choice.
Notes
- Whisk the egg mixture occasionally to keep the cinnamon from settling at the top.
- Use slightly stale sourdough for best results—it soaks up the custard without becoming soggy.
- Top with powdered sugar, nut butter, or whipped cream for variety.
