Description

This Sourdough French Toast is golden and crisp on the outside with a soft, custardy center. Made with tangy sourdough bread and a cinnamon-spiced batter, it’s a delicious twist on the classic breakfast favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1012 slices sourdough bread

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and milk until smooth and no lumps remain.
  2. Add salt, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and sugar. Whisk until fully combined into a smooth batter.
  3. Heat a buttered griddle or frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Dip each slice of sourdough bread into the batter, soaking both sides until saturated but not falling apart.
  5. Place the soaked bread slices onto the hot griddle and cook until golden brown on each side, about 2–3 minutes per side.
  6. Serve warm with maple syrup, fresh berries, or toppings of choice.

Notes

  • Whisk the egg mixture occasionally to keep the cinnamon from settling at the top.
  • Use slightly stale sourdough for best results—it soaks up the custard without becoming soggy.
  • Top with powdered sugar, nut butter, or whipped cream for variety.
