Description

This Quick Whipped Ricotta Dip with Hot Honey is a creamy, tangy, and slightly spicy appetizer perfect for any occasion. Made by blending fresh ricotta with lemon and olive oil until smooth, then topped with a honey mixture infused with hot sauce and chili flakes, and garnished with rosemary and walnuts. Serve it with crackers or crostini for a delicious sweet and savory bite that’s quick to prepare and sure to impress.

Ingredients

Whipped Ricotta

  • 2 cups fresh ricotta (about 475g)
  • Zest from half a lemon
  • Juice from half a lemon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Pinch of ground pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Hot Honey

  • 1/4 cup liquid honey
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes

Garnishes

  • 1-2 tsp fresh minced rosemary
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Prepare the whipped ricotta: In a food processor or high-speed blender, combine the ricotta, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt, pepper, and olive oil. Blend on high speed for 1-2 minutes until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Spread the whipped ricotta evenly in a shallow bowl and set aside.
  2. Make the hot honey: In a small bowl, mix together the liquid honey, hot sauce, and chili flakes until fully combined.
  3. Assemble the dip: Drizzle the hot honey mixture evenly over the whipped ricotta. Sprinkle the top with chopped walnuts and freshly minced rosemary for garnish.
  4. Serve: Offer the dip with crackers or crostini for dipping and enjoy immediately.
  5. Optional crostini preparation: Preheat oven to 400°F. Slice a baguette into 1-inch thick pieces and brush one side with olive oil. Arrange the slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for 5 minutes, then flip and bake for another 5 minutes until toasted and golden. Let cool and serve alongside the dip.

Notes

  • You can prepare the whipped ricotta up to 2 days ahead and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator; add the hot honey and garnishes just before serving.
  • Use high-quality fresh ricotta for the best creamy texture and flavor.
  • The level of heat in the hot honey can be adjusted by varying the amount of hot sauce and chili flakes to suit your taste.
  • The crostini baking instructions are optional but recommended for a crunchy, complementary base.
