Description

A cozy fall dessert made with sweet spiced pears and a fluffy, golden cobbler topping—this pear cobbler comes together with simple pantry staples and bakes into pure comfort in under an hour.

Ingredients

  • For the Topping:
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small chunks
  • 1 cup milk
  • For the Filling:
  • 4 large pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or two knives until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the milk just until the dough comes together—do not overmix; it should be slightly lumpy.
  5. In a separate baking dish, arrange the sliced pears evenly. Sprinkle with flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Toss gently to coat.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the cobbler dough over the pear filling, covering as much as possible.
  7. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the pears are tender.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a splash of vanilla extract to the topping batter.
  • Use ripe but firm pears for the best texture.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a classic touch.
