Description
A cozy fall dessert made with sweet spiced pears and a fluffy, golden cobbler topping—this pear cobbler comes together with simple pantry staples and bakes into pure comfort in under an hour.
Ingredients
- For the Topping:
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small chunks
- 1 cup milk
- For the Filling:
- 4 large pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or two knives until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the milk just until the dough comes together—do not overmix; it should be slightly lumpy.
- In a separate baking dish, arrange the sliced pears evenly. Sprinkle with flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Toss gently to coat.
- Drop spoonfuls of the cobbler dough over the pear filling, covering as much as possible.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the pears are tender.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a splash of vanilla extract to the topping batter.
- Use ripe but firm pears for the best texture.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a classic touch.
