Description

These Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Bars are a deliciously chewy treat combining hearty old-fashioned oats with sweet semi-sweet chocolate chips. Perfect for snacking or dessert, they offer a wonderful balance of cinnamon-spiced oats and rich chocolate in every bite. With a simple preparation and baking method, they’re an easy homemade favorite for any occasion.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 Cups Old-Fashioned Oats
  • 2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup Light Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Unsalted Butter (Melted)
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract

Add-ins

  • 1 1/2 Cups Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • Coarse Sea Salt (for sprinkling on top, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper to ensure easy removal and cleanup.
  2. Mix Together Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the old-fashioned oats, all-purpose flour, light brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Stir well to evenly distribute all the ingredients.
  3. Add in the Wet Ingredients: Pour the melted unsalted butter into the dry mixture, then add the eggs and vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are fully incorporated into a uniform batter.
  4. Add the Chocolate Chips: Gently fold the semi-sweet chocolate chips into the batter ensuring even distribution throughout.
  5. Bake: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the bars turn a light golden color and feel set in the center when lightly touched.
  6. Sprinkle with Salt, Cool and Slice: Immediately after removing from the oven, sprinkle the top with coarse sea salt if desired. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares. Serve and enjoy your delicious oatmeal chocolate chip bars!

Notes

  • Allow bars to cool completely to ensure clean slices and prevent crumbling.
  • Using parchment paper helps in lifting the bars out of the pan easily.
  • For a nuttier flavor, consider adding chopped nuts such as walnuts or pecans to the batter.
  • You can substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips with dark or milk chocolate according to preference.
  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze for longer storage.
