Ingredients
For the Breadsticks
- 1 recipe Homemade Pizza Crust
- 2 teaspoons olive oil, or as needed to coat baking sheet
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning, divided
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella
- ¼ cup shredded Parmesan
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Move the oven rack to the lowest position and preheat your oven to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C) to ensure a hot environment for baking the breadsticks.
- Prepare Dough: Place a sheet of parchment paper on a cutting board or flat surface. Position the pizza dough in the center and lightly sprinkle with flour to prevent sticking. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin into a 14- x 10-inch rectangle, using your hands if necessary to shape it evenly.
- Grease Baking Sheet: Drizzle about 2 teaspoons olive oil on a large rimmed baking sheet and spread it evenly with your hands to prevent sticking during baking.
- Transfer Dough: Peel the rolled dough off the parchment paper and transfer it to the prepared baking sheet. Use your hands to retouch and shape it back into approximately a 14- x 10-inch rectangle to fit the sheet properly without filling the entire surface.
- Add Toppings: In a small bowl, mix melted butter with minced garlic. Pour this mixture over the dough and spread it evenly using the back of a spoon or a knife. Sprinkle half a teaspoon of Italian seasoning and the salt evenly over the dough. Next, distribute the shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the top. Finish by sprinkling the remaining Italian seasoning evenly across the cheese.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and turns golden brown, indicating the breadsticks are cooked and flavorful.
- Slice and Serve: Remove the breadsticks from the oven and let them rest for one to two minutes. Using a pizza cutter, slice the baked dough into 18 strips by cutting 6 times lengthwise and 3 times crosswise. Serve warm for best taste.
Notes
- Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and make transferring dough easier.
- Make sure the oven rack is in the lowest position to promote even browning of the cheese.
- Adjust the seasoning to taste; you can add more garlic or Italian seasoning if preferred.
- Serve warm with marinara or your favorite dipping sauce for added flavor.
- Ensure the dough is properly rolled and shaped for even baking and consistent breadstick sizes.
