Description

These Greek Yogurt Donuts offer a delightful twist on classic donuts by incorporating creamy Greek yogurt into the batter for a moist, tender texture. With options to cook them in a donut maker, oven, or air fryer, these donuts are versatile and easy to prepare. Lightly coated with a cinnamon sugar mixture, they make a perfect treat for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3-4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk (plus an extra tablespoon if needed)
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt

For Cooking and Coating

  • Cooking spray or melted butter (for greasing and coating)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cinnamon. Add the milk and Greek yogurt, mixing until well combined. The dough will be sticky; if too wet, add an extra tablespoon of milk carefully.
  2. Cooking with Donut Maker: Preheat your donut maker and lightly spray with cooking spray. Spoon enough dough to cover the donut holes, close the lid, and cook until the donuts are golden brown. Transfer cooked donuts to a plate and repeat with remaining dough.
  3. Baking Donut Holes in Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. To firm up the dough for shaping, sprinkle in a bit more flour and mix. Using a small scoop, portion dough onto the baking sheet, smoothing the bottoms. Alternatively, oil your hands and gently roll sticky dough balls by hand. Bake in the oven for approximately 15 minutes or until golden.
  4. Cooking Donut Holes in Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and spray the basket with cooking spray. Similarly, thicken the dough slightly with extra flour and portion using a scoop, smoothing bottoms before placing in the basket. You can also oil your hands to roll the dough balls. Air fry for about 12 minutes until cooked through and golden.
  5. Coating the Donuts: On a large plate, mix sugar and cinnamon thoroughly with a fork. Lightly spray the cooked donuts with cooking spray or brush with melted butter, then dip or roll each donut generously in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat all sides evenly. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • The dough is sticky, so oiling your hands when shaping the donut holes can help prevent sticking.
  • Adjust the flour slightly if the dough is too wet or too dry for optimal shaping.
  • Donut maker results in thicker, classic donut shapes, while oven and air fryer methods are great for bite-sized donut holes.
  • Use plain Greek yogurt to maintain balance of flavor and texture.
  • Donuts are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
