Description

This Garlic Butter Steak and Potatoes recipe features juicy, perfectly seared cubed steak bites cooked alongside crisp and tender Yukon Gold potatoes. Both are generously coated with a flavorful garlic herb butter, making for a hearty, comforting one-pan meal that’s quick to prepare and deliciously satisfying.

Ingredients

Seasoning Mix

  • 3 teaspoons salt or more to taste
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons paprika

Steak and Potatoes

  • 2 pounds cubed steak (such as sirloin or NY Strip)
  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed into small bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Browning sauce (optional, for color)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Garlic Butter

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Garnish

  • Parsley (for garnish)
  • Red pepper flakes (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Seasoning Mix: In a small bowl, combine 3 teaspoons of salt, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and paprika. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and set aside.
  2. Make the Garlic Herb Butter: In another small bowl, blend softened butter with minced garlic and chopped parsley until fully mixed. Set aside for later use.
  3. Marinate the Steak: Place the cubed steak in a large bowl. Add Worcestershire sauce, optional browning sauce, and half of the seasoning mix. Toss well to ensure the beef is evenly coated on all sides.
  4. Parboil the Potatoes: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the cubed potatoes and cook for 5 to 6 minutes until they start to soften but are not fully cooked. Drain and let cool slightly.
  5. Season the Potatoes: Once cooled, toss the potatoes with the remaining half of the seasoning mix and 1 tablespoon of olive oil to coat evenly.
  6. Sear the Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak cubes and sear them for 5 to 7 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  7. Cook the Potatoes: Using the same skillet, add the seasoned, parboiled potatoes. Cook over medium-high heat for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and fork-tender.
  8. Combine Steak and Potatoes with Garlic Butter: Return the seared steak to the skillet with the potatoes. Stir in the garlic herb butter, tossing everything together so the steak and potatoes absorb the flavorful buttery sauce.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle red pepper flakes and fresh parsley over the dish before serving for added color and flavor.

Notes

  • Parboiling the potatoes helps achieve a tender inside and crispy outside when sautéed.
  • Browning sauce is optional but adds a deeper color to the steak.
  • Adjust seasoning amounts to your taste preference, especially salt and spices.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed skillet like cast iron for best searing results.
  • Letting the garlic butter soften to room temperature makes it easier to mix and melt evenly.
