Ingredients
- 5 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/2-inch wedges
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup light or dark brown sugar, packed
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into 1/2-inch thick wedges.
- In a large cast iron skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add apple slices, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir to coat the apples evenly.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 10–15 minutes, until apples are tender but still hold their shape.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Serve immediately while warm, plain or with toppings like ice cream.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- Reheat gently in a skillet over low heat or in the microwave until warmed through.
- Best with tart apples like Granny Smith, but Honeycrisp or Fuji can also be used.
- Delicious as a topping for pancakes, waffles, French toast, or oatmeal.
