Description
This easy vegan cheese sauce is a quick and versatile one-pot recipe made with just 7 simple ingredients in 5 minutes. Perfectly creamy and flavorful without any cashews, potatoes, carrots, or blender needed, it’s ideal for drizzling over pasta, burgers, vegan nachos, vegetables, and more.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of plant-based milk
- 1 ½ cups of vegan cheese shreds
- ¼ teaspoon of salt
- ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon of onion powder
Instructions
- Heat the oil and make a roux: In a small pot over medium heat, warm the oil. Once hot, reduce the heat and add the flour, stirring continuously until the mixture forms a smooth roux with no lumps.
- Add the remaining ingredients: Gradually pour in the plant-based milk, vegan cheese shreds, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder into the roux. Stir continuously over low heat.
- Thicken the sauce: Keep stirring gently on low heat until the mixture thickens into a creamy, nacho-style vegan cheese sauce. Remove from heat once desired thickness is reached.
Notes
- Adjust the thickness: If the sauce is too thick, add more plant-based milk gradually. If it’s too thin, add a flour slurry to thicken without lumps.
- For a richer yellow color, add a pinch of turmeric powder to enhance the golden hue.
- For the creamiest texture, use thicker, high-fat plant-based milk like canned coconut milk.
