Description

This Easy Caramel Apple Dump Cake combines tender cinnamon-spiced apples, gooey caramel sauce, buttery cake topping, and minimal effort for a cozy fall dessert that’s perfect for gatherings or a simple weeknight treat.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup homemade caramel sauce (or store-bought), plus more for garnish
  • 12 oz yellow or vanilla cake mix (gluten-free if desired)
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • Apple Pie Filling:
  • 4 green apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 5 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water (mixed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. If using homemade caramel sauce, prepare it first and set aside to cool.
  3. Make the apple pie filling: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and add cinnamon. Stir in chopped apples, sugar, and water. Cover and cook for 5–6 minutes, stirring every minute.
  4. Whisk together cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water in a small bowl. Add to apples and stir until thickened and bubbling. Remove from heat.
  5. Transfer the apple pie filling to a 9×13-inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  6. Drizzle 1/2 cup of caramel sauce over the apple mixture.
  7. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the top. Do not mix.
  8. Pour melted butter over the cake mix, covering as much of it as possible.
  9. Bake for 45–50 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling around the edges.
  10. Cool slightly and serve warm. Garnish with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, and extra caramel sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Use store-bought caramel sauce to save time.
  • Substitute with a gluten-free cake mix if needed.
  • Let cool slightly before serving to allow the filling to set.
