Description

This classic French Toast recipe features thick slices of bread dipped in a rich mixture of eggs, milk, flour, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla, then cooked to a golden brown. Perfect for a quick and delicious breakfast, it’s easy to prepare and serves eight people.

Ingredients

Egg Mixture

  • 4 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup milk (160 ml)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (30 grams)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50 grams)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste (5 ml)

Bread

  • 8 thick slices bread

Instructions

  1. Preheat the cooking surface: Preheat a griddle to 350 degrees F or heat a skillet over medium heat to ensure it’s hot enough to cook the French toast evenly.
  2. Prepare the batter: In a blender, combine eggs, milk, flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla bean paste. Blend until smooth. Alternatively, whisk the flour and eggs together in a shallow dish first, then add and whisk the remaining ingredients until well combined.
  3. Dip the bread: Dredge each slice of bread thoroughly in the batter, ensuring both sides are coated well to absorb the custard mixture.
  4. Cook the French toast: Place the dipped bread slices onto the hot, greased griddle or skillet. Cook for several minutes until the bottom is golden brown, then flip and cook the other side until equally golden.
  5. Serve warm: Remove the French toast from the pan and serve immediately. Accompany with syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar for extra sweetness if desired.

Notes

  • Use thick slices of bread such as brioche or Texas toast for the best texture and absorption.
  • Ensure the cooking surface is properly preheated to avoid soggy French toast.
  • Vanilla bean paste adds deeper flavor than vanilla extract but can be substituted if necessary.
  • Adjust the sugar amount to taste or omit for a less sweet dish.
  • Serve immediately for optimal taste and texture.
