Description

Chicken Broccoli Stir Fry is a quick and delicious weeknight meal featuring tender chicken thighs and crisp broccoli florets cooked in a savory, glossy sauce. Ready in just 25 minutes, this flavorful dish pairs perfectly with steamed rice or noodles for a satisfying and wholesome dinner.

Ingredients

For Marinating the Chicken

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

For the Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • ¾ cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

For the Stir Fry

  • 1 head broccoli, cut into florets
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced chicken thighs with 2 tablespoons of low-sodium soy sauce and ½ teaspoon of baking soda. Mix thoroughly to ensure even coating and let it marinate for at least 10 minutes to tenderize and enhance flavor.
  2. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together 1 tablespoon of dark soy sauce, 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce, 2 tablespoons oyster sauce, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and ¾ cup chicken broth until the mixture is smooth and well combined. Set this sauce aside for later use.
  3. Cook the Chicken: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook it for 5 to 6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is browned on the outside and cooked through. Remove the cooked chicken from the skillet and set it aside on a plate.
  4. Stir Fry the Broccoli: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned. Add the broccoli florets and stir fry for 5 to 6 minutes until they are tender-crisp. If you prefer softer broccoli, cover the skillet briefly to steam the florets slightly.
  5. Combine and Finish: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet with the broccoli. Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and broccoli, stirring continuously to coat all ingredients evenly. Cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce thickens and everything is heated through.
  6. Serve: Drizzle 1 tablespoon of sesame oil over the stir fry and toss gently to distribute the flavor. Serve the hot chicken broccoli stir fry immediately over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Marinating the chicken with baking soda helps tenderize the meat for a juicier texture.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to control the saltiness of the dish.
  • For softer broccoli, cover the pan briefly while stir frying to steam the florets slightly.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar and oyster sauce to taste depending on your preferred sweetness and umami level.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the dish at its freshest and crispiest.
