Description

This breaded crispy tofu recipe is an easy and delicious way to enjoy tofu with a crunchy golden crust. Perfect for serving on its own or adding to bowls, wraps, and salads, this dish combines super firm tofu coated in seasoned breadcrumbs and baked to crispy perfection.

Ingredients

Tofu

  • 1 block super firm tofu (16 ounces)
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened, unflavored non-dairy milk
  • Spray oil (optional)

Seasoned Breadcrumbs

  • 1 container (8 ounces) plain panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking the tofu.
  2. Prepare Breadcrumbs: In a blender, add the entire package of plain panko breadcrumbs along with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, dried parsley flakes, and salt. Blend for about 30 seconds until the mixture is well combined and the seasonings are evenly distributed. Measure out ⅔ cup (60g) of the seasoned breadcrumbs and place them in a large flat bowl or plate for breading.
  3. Prep the Tofu: Drain and press the super firm tofu block to remove excess moisture. Cut the tofu in half crosswise, then slice into approximately ¼ inch thick slices. Cut each slice diagonally to form tofu triangles.
  4. Bread the Tofu: Coat each tofu piece first in cornstarch, then dip into the non-dairy milk, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, dredge the tofu in the seasoned breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere the coating. Place breaded tofu pieces on a baking sheet. Repeat for all pieces.
  5. Bake: Optionally spray the tofu pieces lightly with spray oil for extra crispiness. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, flipping the tofu halfway through to ensure even browning. The tofu should turn golden brown and crispy.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove the tofu from the oven and let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy it alone, or add to your favorite bowls, wraps, or salads.
