Description

Experience broccoli like never before with this Bang Bang Broccoli recipe. Roasted to a perfect golden crisp and tossed in a creamy, spicy tahini-based Bang Bang sauce, this dish offers a delightful combination of smoky, crunchy, and spicy flavors that make broccoli the star of the meal.

Ingredients

Broccoli

  • 2 heads broccoli, broken into florets
  • 1½ tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp cornflake breadcrumbs, or panko
  • 1 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 tsp paprika

Bang Bang Sauce

  • ¼ cup tahini
  • 2 tbsp sriracha (adjust depending on desired spice level)
  • 1 tbsp sweet chili sauce, heaping
  • 2 tbsp water, to thin, if needed

Topping

  • 1 tsp sesame seeds, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for roasting the broccoli.
  2. Prepare Broccoli: Break the broccoli into florets and place them in a large bowl. Coat the florets evenly with extra virgin olive oil. Sprinkle in cornstarch, cornflake breadcrumbs (or panko), nutritional yeast, and paprika. Toss everything together until the broccoli is fully coated with the seasoning mixture.
  3. Roast Broccoli: Transfer the coated broccoli florets onto a sheet pan in a single layer. Roast in the oven for 20 minutes, tossing halfway through cooking to ensure even browning and a golden, crispy texture.
  4. Make Bang Bang Sauce: While the broccoli is roasting, prepare the Bang Bang sauce by combining tahini, sriracha, and sweet chili sauce in a bowl. Stir until completely smooth. Add water one tablespoon at a time as needed to thin the sauce until it is shiny and pourable.
  5. Combine and Serve: Once the broccoli is roasted to a golden finish, remove it from the oven and transfer to a serving bowl. Drizzle the Bang Bang sauce over the top, toss gently to coat the florets evenly, and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of sriracha in the sauce to control the spice level to your preference.
  • If you prefer a gluten-free version, substitute cornflake breadcrumbs with gluten-free panko or omit breadcrumbs.
  • Nutritional yeast adds a cheesy, savory flavor and is optional if you want to keep the recipe simpler.
  • Make sure to toss the broccoli halfway through roasting to ensure even crisping.
  • The sauce can be thinned with water gradually to achieve your preferred consistency.
