Ingredients
Wet Ingredients
- 2-3 medium very ripe bananas, mashed
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup melted salted butter
- 1/2 tsp vanilla paste
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Dry Ingredients
- 1 and 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
Optional
- Substitute the chocolate chips for chopped nuts if preferred
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to preheat so it’s ready when your batter is mixed.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted salted butter and packed light brown sugar until smooth and combined. Add the mashed ripe bananas, large egg, and vanilla paste, then mix until fully incorporated.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Sift whole wheat flour, baking soda, and salt over the wet mixture to avoid lumps. If you don’t have a sifter, mix the dry ingredients separately before adding. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet using a wooden spoon, taking care not to overmix to keep the blondies tender.
- Incorporate Chocolate Chips: Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips carefully to distribute them evenly throughout the batter without breaking them up.
- Prepare Baking Dish: Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish to prevent sticking. Pour the batter into the dish and gently smooth the top for even baking. Optionally, sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top for extra gooeyness.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 34 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean or with just a few moist crumbs attached.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the blondies to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes to set. Then gently remove them from the pan and cut into bars. Serve and enjoy your delicious banana bread blondies!
Notes
- Use very ripe bananas for maximum sweetness and moisture.
- Do not overmix the batter to prevent tough blondies—stir just until combined.
- If you prefer a nutty crunch, substitute chocolate chips with chopped nuts such as walnuts or pecans.
- Store leftover blondies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
