Description

These homemade Apple Pie Turnovers are made with flaky, buttery puff pastry and filled with a delicious apple pie filling. They’re the perfect treat for a quick and easy dessert!

Ingredients

  • For the Apple Filling:
  • 2 cups apples, peeled, cored, and diced (Granny Smith preferred)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ lemon, juiced
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • For the Turnovers:
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1 egg white, plus 1 tbsp water (whisked together for egg wash)
  • For the Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  2. Prepare the Apple Filling: In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples and cook for about 3 minutes. Stir in the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  3. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet and use a rolling pin to gently roll over the seams. Cut the sheet into four squares.
  4. Assemble the Turnovers: Spoon the apple filling evenly into the center of each pastry square. Brush the bottom edge of the pastry with a little egg wash. Fold the pastry in half to create a triangle, and use a fork to pinch the edges together.
  5. Bake the Turnovers: Place the turnovers on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top with egg wash to help them brown beautifully. Cut two small slits on top of each turnover to allow steam to escape while baking. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for 10 minutes on a cooling rack.
  6. Make the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk the powdered sugar and milk together until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more sugar if needed to make it thicker.
  7. Drizzle and Serve: Drizzle the glaze over the cooled turnovers. Serve warm and enjoy!
