Ingredients
- 4 medium apples (peeled, cored, chopped or sliced)
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 4 teaspoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water (for slurry)
Instructions
- Peel, core, and cut apples into 1/2-inch cubes or 1/4-inch slices.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and stir in cinnamon.
- Add apples, sugar, and 3 tablespoons water. Stir, then cover and cook for 4–6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until just slightly softened.
- In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and 2 tablespoons water. Add to the pan while stirring.
- Continue cooking until the apples are tender but not mushy and the filling thickens.
- Let it bubble for 1 minute, then remove from heat and allow to cool.
Notes
- Use firm apples such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture.
- Adjust cinnamon and sugar to taste depending on desired sweetness and spice.
- Can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
